Hotels in Cajamarca

Cajamarca is a historical city, located in northern Peru. It is indeed a beautiful place which deserves a close look from their visitors. It is ideal for tourists who are looking for a peaceful place to rest. On the other hand, for those who prefer shopping and walking by the beach, Miraflores seems to be the right place. It doesn't matter whether you choose to stay in a Cajamarca hotel or a Miraflores hotel, you won't regret it.

I really enjoy the mountains; maybe it's because I grew up in Minnesota where there aren't any. I praise God for being able to live in a beautiful canyon surrounded by high mountains. The problem with that is that I always want to climb them. Every time I go from Cotahuasi to Arequipa, there are Nevado Coropuna and Nevado Solimana tempting me. The road seems designed to give you as many tantalizing views of both mountains as possible, as it curves around them and between them.

The haunting, plaintive music of Peruvian shamans was recorded by the Eagle's Wing Centre for Contemporary Shamanism at ceremonies in the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon rainforest. Although the chants and icaros have an organic relationship to the medicine plants and shamanic journeying of each particular ritual, and are primarily intended as devotional music for inner-journeying. It is equally possible to listen to the hypnotically beautiful sounds in their own right and simply enjoy them for their otherworldly loveliness.

I am not trying to make fun of my Peruvian comrades, only that it is sad to have to write what I feel is more than truthful. There is a very high rate of alcoholism in Peru, between 8 to 10 percent, are chronic alcoholics, and 80 percent drink. And there is much too much, death because of this, such as car accidents, and domestic abuse, and over the road, at night, bus drivers are commonly drunk, and accidents occur.

A visit to Peru just wouldn't be complete without a stop at Machu Picchu. It is one of the world's greatest ruins and a must see destination for anyone visiting the country. Remarkably well preserved, it managed to avoid 400 years of looting and destruction. Its location in the mountains hid it from the Spanish Invasion and has given tourists an awesome view ever since being rediscovered in 1911. This ancient Inca complex is extraordinary. The grounds stand atop a flat peak and its terraced steps plunge down the mountain clinging to the side of its slopes. It is truly a wonder of the world.

There were two cities near Huancayo, that sunk deep into its lakes, long before my time, and legend says, the one that was near Chupaea, now resides in the lake of Nahuinpuquio. The other one, I already wrote about before, known as Laguna de Paca, which also has its legends. The Wanka culture [Huanca culture] lived in this area, an old culture perhaps dating back to near the time of Christ.

Looking out my front windows, I can see Cerro Teneccacca, a large mountain that sits between the Cotahuasi River and the Mungi River. It starts as a low ridge near where the Cotahuasi and Mungi Canyons meet, and climbs up out of my sight behind Cerro Huinao. I have tried to hike up along the ridge to Huaynacotas, a village that is up there about an hours drive away. There is no real trail up the ridge, but enough remnants of old trails and use trails that it makes an interesting hike most of the way.

Last Sunday in church, Fredy asked me if I would be able to help him and some of the other brothers who were going up there on Wednesday. I understood that they were going to gather rocks to use for the foundation of the radio equipment building, that will be at the base of the tower. I wasn't sure what exactly would be involved but agreed to go and help, as well as provide transportation up there in my van. As we were loading the six of us and tools into the van, I soon found out that this was going to be a rock breaking expedition.
